Poem – Ethiopia

I wrote a draft of this poem in Ethiopia in October 2014. I just found it again and completed it. thought I’d throw it up on here. Maybe someone will find and enjoy it.
Sealed in by rain, we waited it out
Corrugated walls pressed a cheek to the applause
Inside, a cut rose threw its blush about
In shivering throes of its singular cause
Purpose petaled from its parched hip
It scarred itself in a bloody sprint
We dilettantes shrink from such conclusive form
And slaked our thirst slinking out into the storm
